Antique 14k Gold Garnet and Seed Pearl Ring

Paste stones, developed and refined in the 18th and 19th centuries, were not simply substitutes but a craft of their own. Made from high-lead glass and carefully cut to mimic the depth and brilliance of natural gemstones, they allowed jewelers to explore color, scale, and composition with greater freedom.
